UNTH Foundation Joins General Management Meeting to Champion Collaboration and Compassion

On September 19th, 2025, the UNTH Foundation proudly participated in the General Management Meeting of UNTH Heads of Departments (HODs), alongside the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Director of Administration (DA), and other key stakeholders.
Representing the Foundation were Prof. Theresa Nwagha, CEO of UNTH Foundation, and Mrs. Sarah Akpu, Media and Communication Officer. The meeting was marked by a spirit of openness and collaboration, as each department head was given the opportunity to share challenges and receive direct solutions from the CMD and relevant authorities.
Addressing Challenges, Building Solutions
The CMD candidly expressed concern over the increasing rate of medical personnel leaving the country — a trend known locally as “japa” — which has led to staffing shortages across several departments. This honest dialogue set the stage for constructive contributions from HODs, who offered valuable suggestions aimed at improving departmental efficiency and staff morale.
UNTH Foundation’s Vision Shared
Prof. Theresa Nwagha was invited to speak about the UNTH Foundation’s mission to support indigent patients, and how every staff member can play a role in advancing this cause. She introduced the 1% Campaign, encouraging each staff member to contribute just 1% of their earnings to help fund life-saving interventions — particularly for accident victims and open-heart patients.

Together, we can build a hospital where no patient is left behind due to financial constraints. The 1% Campaign is not just a donation — it’s a movement of compassion,” Prof. Nwagha emphasized.“
She concluded by urging all HODs to cascade this message to their teams and join hands with the Foundation to make UNTH a beacon of hope and healing.
A Step Forward
By the end of the meeting, the CMAC and several other staff members had already pledged their support to the 1% Campaign — a promising sign of unity and shared purpose.
It was, indeed, a successful outing — one that reaffirmed our collective commitment to making UNTH not just a hospital, but a community of care.
